New York : Whitney Museum of American Art : Isamu Noguchi: Master Sculptor
[TableauxEnLigne.com] - [Exhibition] - [Thursday 28th, October 2004]

Humpty Dumpty
Isamu Noguchi: Master Sculptor

on view October 28, 2004 – January 16, 2005
Emily Fisher Landau Galleries, Floor 4
Celebrating the centennial of Isamu Noguchi’s birth, the Whitney and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden are co-organizing this major retrospective. The son of a Japanese poet and an American teacher, Noguchi embraced aspects of Asian, American, and European culture throughout his life. His resolutely individual approach to sculpture, inspired by Eastern and Western aesthetics and traditions of craftsmanship, is manifest in the originality of the art he created. This exhibition illuminates the artist’s sculptural achievements apart from his well-known designs for dance sets, furniture, and gardens. It incorporates many of Noguchi’s greatest sculptures, including works rarely seen before in public. After its Whitney presentation, Isamu Noguchi: Master Sculptor will be on view at the Hirshhorn from February 10 to May 8, 2005.
